Using epoxy to repair doors and brickwork

The problem: weakened brickwork

Our workshop has seen better days as far as the brickwork is concerned. Wind and water damage had left the walls quite weak and difficult to attach anything to securely.

We needed to strengthen the brick faces and stop them blowing off before fitting new door supports.

Step 1: coating the brick and timber

On the last dry day we had, we made a start. Because it was February and cold, we used MAS Low Vis resin with fast hardener, which cures reliably even in cold conditions.

We marked out the area where the new door supports needed to attach, then gave both the brickwork and the face of the timber that would sit against the wall a good coat of MAS Low Vis with fast hardener.

Step 2: bonding the supports with FLAG and Workshop Mix

Next, we mixed up some MAS FLAG with fast hardener and Workshop Mix, thickened to a peanut-butter consistency.

We dropped large spoonfuls of this mix along the length of the timber that needed to bond to the wall, along with a couple of steel bolts epoxied in for extra strength. With that done, the first parts of the new door supports were up.
